MOODY GARDENS® began in the mid-1980s with a horse barn, a riding arena with a hippotherapy riding program for people with head injuries and an extraordinary vision to create an island tourist destination. Today Moody Gardens® is one of the premier educational/leisure facilities in the Southwest. It also provides horticultural therapy, education and employment for persons with a wide range of physical and emotional disabilities.

Since its inception in 1983 and adoption of an eight phase master plan in 1985, Moody Gardens® has illustrated through its various attractions numerous innovative and creative programs - resulting in a visitation count of approximately 2 million visitors annually.

THE STRAND - Galveston Historic District After nearly two centuries in existence, the Strand National Historic Landmark District, Galveston’s heart and soul, has continued to blossom into a gathering place for the community. The modern-day Strand District, named for the historic Strand Street on which it is located, is home to a wide variety of shops, historical points of interests, art galleries, museums, and many top-rated restaurants.

There is so much to see and do in the area, that you can easily enjoy a full weekend on the Strand. Stroll through the beautiful historical streets and admire the Victorian architecture.

HISTORIC HOMES - Galveston Historic District

Galveston has had a richly evolving history of European settlement for some 200 years, during which time pirates set their flags in the soil, waves of immigrants from Germany, Italy and Greece made their way to the island, and wealthy merchants planted strong roots.

After the Great Storm, Galveston’s economic leaders eventually refashioned the town as a popular tourist destination — which it still serves as today. Although most of the original structures are long gone, the stories of early islanders live on in renovated structures and new establishments created in memory of the past.
